The Story Behind the Stitches
Hello, I’m
Ruby Mitchell
Founder · Pattern Designer · Crochet Storyteller
I didn’t plan to become a crochet designer. It started with a borrowed hook, a tangled ball of yarn, and a little bee with wobbly wings that I somehow managed to finish. That tiny bee changed everything.

What I Believe
Crochet Is More Than
Making Things
In a world that rewards speed, crochet insists on slowing down. Every stitch is a small act of presence — proof that you were here, paying attention, caring enough to count. That’s what AmiGurumiVibe is built around.
Patience as Practice
We design each pattern with intentionality from choosing the right stitch combinations
Objects With Soul
Whether you’ve just learned your first chain stitch or you’re ready for advanced techniques
Quiet Revolution
In our fast-paced world, crochet offers a sanctuary of mindfulness and meditation
My Design
Philosophy
Clarity First, Beauty Always
Every pattern I write begins with a simple test: can a beginner follow this without frustration? If not, I rewrite it. Clear instructions matter more to me than impressive technique.
I test every pattern at least twice — once myself, and once with a crocheter who hasn’t seen it before. Only patterns that pass both tests get published.
Principle 01
No Pattern Leaves Without Being Tested
I crochet every single pattern at least once from scratch before publishing. I also recruit beta testers from the community. You’ll never encounter a pattern that skips a step.
Principle 02
Plain Language, Always
No cryptic abbreviation dumps. Every term is defined. Every stitch is explained in context. If a 10-year-old can follow it — and they have — it passes.
Principle 03
The Process Is the Point
I design for the joy of making, not just the finished object. Every pattern is paced to feel satisfying at each stage, not just at the end.
Why AmiGurumiVibe Exists
A Blog Built Around
You
I built this blog because I couldn’t find what I was looking for: beginner-friendly patterns with complete instructions, honest yarn recommendations, and a community that doesn’t make you feel like a novice for asking questions.
-
Patterns That Actually WorkEvery pattern is tested by multiple crocheters with different skill levels before it goes live. No guessing, no gaps.
-
Honest Yarn ReviewsI’ve crocheted with dozens of yarn brands across price points. My recommendations are based on real experience — not sponsorships.
-
A Community, Not Just a BlogWith 53,000+ members worldwide, AmiGurumiVibe is a place where questions are welcomed and finished objects are celebrated loudly.
-
New Patterns, Always Free to TryEvery season brings new designs — cute animals, seasonal characters, mini collections — and I always offer at least one beginner pattern completely free.

Dear fellow
Maker
If you’re reading this, you’re probably someone who finds joy in creating things with your hands — or you’re curious about starting. Either way, I want you to know: you belong here.
I know what it feels like to stare at a pattern and feel completely lost. I know the frustration of frogging a project for the fourth time and wondering if you’ll ever get it right. I also know the specific, irreplaceable joy of finishing something and holding it in your hands — something that didn’t exist before you made it.
AmiGurumiVibe exists to make more of those second moments possible. Every pattern I write, every tutorial I film, every yarn review I publish — it’s all in service of helping you get to that moment of completion and pride.
Whether you’re here for the patterns, the tutorials, or just to browse, I’m glad you found this corner of the internet. It was made for you.

Common Questions
Things Readers
Ask
Are your patterns suitable for absolute beginners?
Yes — and I mean that literally. Many of my patterns are designed with first-time crocheters in mind. I always mark the difficulty level clearly, and every beginner pattern includes a visual stitch count guide and progress photos at key stages. If you can hold a hook, you can start here.
What yarn do you recommend for beginners?
For beginners, I almost always recommend a smooth, light-colored worsted weight yarn — something like Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice or Paintbox Simply DK. Avoid dark colors and fuzzy yarns at first; they make it incredibly hard to see your stitches and count accurately. I have a full yarn guide on the blog!
Do you sell your patterns, or are they free?
Both! I offer a selection of free patterns on the blog — including at least one beginner-friendly option per season. More detailed or complex patterns are available as PDF downloads in the shop. Everything is reasonably priced and thoroughly tested.
Can I sell items I make from your patterns?
Yes! You’re welcome to sell finished items made from my patterns in small quantities. All I ask is that you credit AmiGurumiVibe as the pattern source. Please don’t resell or redistribute the pattern itself — just the gorgeous things you make from it.
How often do you publish new patterns?
I aim to publish 2–3 new patterns per month, plus tutorials and yarn reviews. Seasonal patterns drop around 6 weeks before the relevant holiday so you have plenty of time to make them as gifts. Subscribe to the newsletter to be the first to know!
